Saving the Best for Last

Today was the last day of B's and L's first visit to Bellingham, and we kept them busy, beginning with a walk along the Lake Padden Gorge Trail. (That's not quite as dramatic as it sounds, but it was a lovely stroll amidst tall evergreens and beautiful light.)

As B hadn't seen Fairhaven yet, we went into town that way, stopping at Marine Park for a few minutes to enjoy the sun and the view (seen here in February sunshine). After a quick errand in downtown Bellingham, we headed for La Fiamma Pizza for their lunch special of a generously-sized "personal pizza" from their exhaustive list, and a very nice lunch salad, all for $9 / 7,30 Euro / 5.75 GBP.

For those interested in seeing our pizzas, here is what we had:
-- B: Prosciutto, red onion, mozzarella, fresh rosemary
-- Phil: Potato, onion, gorgonzola, fennel sausage, balsamic vinegar reduction drizzle
-- Me: Grilled flank steak, feta and mozzarella cheeses, red bell peppers, spinach, kalamata olives
-- L: Pesto, fresh mushrooms, six cheeses
And beer, of course, for Phil and B!

Next on our list was Whatcom Museum, currently featuring a wonderful exhibit of American quilts (1780-2007). The men decided they'd go to Hardware Sales before seeing the quilt exhibit, which worked out well, as L and I were far more interested in the quilts than they were.

Off next to The Copper Hog for happy hour -- beer for three of us, tea for one, and a shared soft pretzel and coconut calamari with mango -- and then to Manpies, our final stop, to purchase their famous meat pies for our last supper. Those pies are in the oven, turning a beautiful golden brown even as I type these words, so it's time to wrap this up and get ready for another great evening of good food and conversation.

We are really going to miss B and L!
