Games legacy and greenspace
Successful day today.
We had our 'start-up' meeting with the consultants we have commissioned to undertake the design stage of our Multifunctional Greenspace Project (catchy title I know...). All being well, this project will be a hefty part of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games 'greener legacy' (see my blip from the 2nd August too).
We have a great team working on this now and I'm pretty confident that the project will work out well and help to improve the lives of some of Glasgow's (and indeed Scotland's) most deprived communities.
It got me so inspired I went out at lunch and blipped a 'multifunctional greenspace' right next to our office. Opened in 2004, Rottenrow Gardens is the site of the former Royal Glasgow Maternity Hospital.
Due to the steepness of the site, the garden works quite literally on many levels and provides many 'functions' from sustainable drainage and grassland habitat to public art, heritage and a pleasant spot to have lunch. I even saw some energetic folk using the park's various levels and structures to practice their parkour. Hopefully we'll be able to do as great a job with our sites too.
