A Loose Cable
The blue sky and golden early morning sunshine didn't fool me as I paid an early visit to Greyfriars' Kirkyard.
There was a cool wind with more than a hint of Autumn borne in on it's back.
The first of the newly fallen leaves in the graveyard were caught in small spiralling vortexes, before being chased into nooks and crannies along the wall of the kirk adding to the existing mounds lying wet and sodden after yesterday's rain.
But despite the first fall of leaves, the trees were not yet sporting their yellow and gold livery and the views through them to the Castle and the old town bathed in sunshine, were the stuff of blips, so I can't explain why I picked this loose cable to post for today, except it looks pretty on pink.
Now after a second sortie, when the sun is a little reluctant to appear and the sky is no longer blue, the wind has picked up in strength and chill; I think the Indian summer is disappearing fast.
The cherry was put on Britain's 2012 sporting calendar last night with Andy Murray winning the US tennis open. He stands along with Bradley Wiggins and all the medal winners of team GB, 0lympic and Paralympic who have done us proud in the year of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
It's just a pity he couldn't be present yesterday when millions of Londoners lined the route of the celebratory procession to applaud our athletes.
