Wharaiki Beach
Well the weather has deteriorated, no sunrise this morning with thick cloud looming on the horizon. We had tiny bits of blue sky for about a couple of seconds before the cloud took over.
Hubby and I spent most of the day at Wharaiki Beach, a photographers paradise with huge white sand dunes, caves to explore, seals to watch and the amazing Archway Islands. I would've loved a sunset here, like so many others have done but it was not to be this time, my first and won't be my last.
The walk into the beach is over farmland with lots of little lambs being spring and some cattle in the distance - they can keep their distance being way bigger than I! We meandered around the hills before coming down through bush and entering out into the open beside a small river where seal pups were playing and those sand dunes were just ahead of us.
Our day of exploring didn't end here, we headed off in the car much later in the day, along gravel roads and over cattle stops, up in the hills with farms all around us we were looking for the Kaihoka Lakes which we did eventually find nicely nestled between some hills with surrounding bush. We were surprised at the number of NZ Pigeons we saw sitting on fence posts - there must be plenty of food around being spring.
After all of our walking out in the fresh air and feeling quite wind blown I'm hoping for a really good nights sleep.
It's a looong way down!
