L? Arc - Basingstoke

This sculpture is often compared, at least in form, to Saddam Hussein's victory arch in Baghdad. Parts of the latter's giant arms, which held crossed swords, were cast in Basingstoke in the late 80's before Saddam became the bad boy of Baghdad.

In the background is the relatively new apartment complex, referred to as the Costa del Basingstoke. The warm Mediterranean colours of its facade are best appreciated when viewed in the setting sun from the beach roof top car park on the right.
