In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash
We're still in full-on tourist mode. Since today is a public holiday in Spain (Columbus Day), we decided to take a day off and go for a drive, visiting several nearby villages. I took tons of touristy "I was here" photos. However, I was most struck by this vending machine in the church in Pals, selling candles. If you don't trust your worshippers to put money in a box for candles, who do you trust?
Pals is a pretty town, but a bit over-restored and chichi for me. I preferred the village of Palau Sator, and we also visited the church in Fontclara, which had some nice wall paintings.
All of these villages seemed to have no businesses other than restaurants and bars. But we rejected them all and back in Begur, we had lunch at Can Nasi. It was a bit pricy, but delicious food. We shared a classic Catalan starter of grilled vegetables, served with romesco sauce -- a tomato and red pepper dressing thickened with pounded almonds. I almost blipped it, but decided that this photo was a bit more original. So see my blipfolio for the spare blip.
