Mt Herbert

It was a hard slog up Mt Herbert today, especially as it had rained overnight, and it was muddy and slippery on the steeper parts. There were even the remnants of a light fall of spring snow overnight at the top.

This is Mt Herbert Shelter, about 20 minutes from the top of Mt Herbert, which at 920 metres (3,000 feet), is the highest point on Banks Peninsula.

Beyond the shelter is the ocean, with a little piece of Lake Ellesmere visible. The hillsides are a brilliant yellow at the moment, as the invasive gorse is in flower.

Though there was a cool wind at the top, the views were spectacular on a sunny day.
