Life in Sunny Dubai

Inspiring People

This is Geraldine, my flatmate whom I've known since 1992. (Typical G pose here!)

She has got a really interesting story and has lived all over the world (army & embassy kid). She is a (specialist - VI) teacher and has touched hundreds of lives in a career that spans decades. Despite being born with pneumonia, she has never been ill, hardly ever took medicines and has never been in hospital, until last December when she was diagnosed with breast cancer! I mentioned some of her story in my blip yesterday.

Geraldine is the most positive, can't get-me-down person I have ever met! The glass is always half full, she rarely complains, faces challenges head on, and has an unshakeable, well grounded, practical faith. She handled her chemotherapy side effects so well, I hardly had to do anything except provide moral support.

She is a colourful fabulous storyteller, creative with her hands (does needlework), plays a good game of badminton and will try just about anything once. She also cooks delicious meals and takes some really awesome pictures! Oh, and she puts up with me - no idea why! (She took me on as a challenge!)

Geraldine has gone through some of the toughest and most challenging times this year including losing her job because of her cancer, and navigating her way through insurance companies and their policies. Yet she is making all sorts of plans of things she wants to do when 2013 begins!

Along with my mum, she's my hero! :)

We went to Galeries Lafayette for lunch today... splashing out on the last day of the month! A GOOD day today with lots of errands completed and a few important jobs done. Blipping pink has been a breeze and I've loved it. Blipping cancer survivors has been a challenge. Well, the write up has!

Thank you everyone who took on the Pink Challenge to raise awareness for this awful disease that creeps up on far too many women. There have been mentions of survivors today, but there have also been a lot of casualties. My aunt was one. She inititally survived and had the all clear, then sadly succumbed in 2010. SO glad we live in the times we do. So much progress made in medicine.

G's entry for today...
