Turned out grand

Often the best beaches are the ones you have to walk to.

After a fairly cold, breezy start, today turned out into a lovely day for walking by the sea and this walk is rapidly becoming a favourite of mine. From Newton-by-the-Sea, instead of continuing down the road to the beach, as almost everyone else does, and it is a very nice beach indeed, I turned off onto the coastal path. This wonderful grassy path follows the rocky coastline very closely and it is a joy to walk along it. Today, the sun was shining, larks were singing , there were cowslips everywhere, and all the time the waves roll in and the sea changes colour with the movement of the clouds. Idyllic.

Eventually, a beautiful wide sandy bay comes into view and there is a path down to it. For some unknown reason it is called Football Hole and is a real gem. A few people walk along it as they follow the various coastal paths, but most of the time there is no one else at all. A great place to sit and read or just watch the waves, especially on a gorgeous day like today turned out to be.

Meanwhile our daughter was in Cornwall, doing something completely different!
