Il Mare

Maker and player of the fabulous beach driftwood violin Il Mare. On the left, Steve Burnett, a self-taught maker of violins, and on the right Thoren Ferguson who has been collaborating with Steve for a while, playing his violins. This was at an excellent Creative Mornings event at Assembly Roxy where Steve described some of the violins he has made and then Thoren played a few tunes on Il Mare - The Skye Boat Song, a couple of jigs and the capstan shanty 'Shenandoah'. Afterwards there was a chance to see the violin up close, as well as chat to the two of them - lots of ideas about how they could do things in Portobello! After we left the Roxy, the conversation continued at a nearby cafe until midday - a great morning!
