Jagged Rocks and Wild Seas

The day started with a loop walk, that took in the coast, then climbed up above the ruins of the old copper mines, to take in the view out to the mountains of Kerry. In the other direction we could see the colourful cottages of Allihies and beyond to Dursey Island. We headed for the Dzogchen Beara, a Tibetan Buddhist retreat centre, that is situated in a stunning cliff top location and has a very nice cafe.
The plan for the afternoon was to take the cable car across to Dursey Island but the weather was closing in, so we did another walk, the Garnish island loop walk, which took us along some spectacular cliffs, where the waves pounded on the rocks way below us. The rain remained very soft until the last hundred yards, so we felt very lucky. Back to the pub to dry out while we listened to a brilliant traditional session, a great end to a wonderful couple of days!
