Rakia salmon
I had my first experience of fishing for salmon at a river mouth.
It was pretty exciting seeing salmon jumping and porpoising. I was a bit concerned about the the porpoising salmon as it was heading seawards, not inland. But my mate explained they like to mill around in the pools on the edge of the main flow.
Other than my closeness to this fibreglass salmon at the Rakia township, I did get close to a real salmon. The lovely man standing next to me caught a salmon. We'd just been saying that with the salmon jumping in front of us one of had to catch one.
I learned a few things. Hopefully my knot tying technique for attaching braid and mono is getting better. I lost a good lure through one knot. With the increasing tidal flow and frequent snags, we headed up river to fish some pools. It was a great experience and my mate knows what he's doing.
A snooze in the truck for hpx on the way home. Maybe we'll fish the Waimakariri River mouth late tomorrow.
