Disaster day
We hired a van from SuperU supermarket in Roujan today. The idea was to pick up enough MDF from the shop in Beziers to floor the mezzanine but it turned out that the man who "cuts" the MDF isn't turning up til Wednesday and the person who "prices" the cutting wasn't that interested.
Meanwhile, having hired the van and driven around the car-park a few times to get a feel for it, 4 minutes later, I scraped its side as I was turning into our road. Nothing serious but the metal was slightly bent so a tad more than just the plastic decoration dropping off the side.
Meanwhile, we learned that the 400 euro redemption of the Ikea voucher for the 10% reduction we got when we bought the kitchen ran out yesterday.
When we took the van back this evening we discovered that the hire of the van doesn't actually include any insurance nor an excess against damage. The 800 euro cheque we left as guarantee will probably not cover the minimal damage done to the van. All in all today cost about 1200 euros. At the very least. We've discovered that SuperU can charge us what they want to make good the damage. I'm feeling sick. My fault as I didn't read the very small print, and we REALLY hope no-one else in Roujan falls into the same hole.
Lizzie managed to get our tilers back on track after they left behind a disaster this weekend. We also discovered, to our shock today, that the floor-tilers don't lay wall-tiles. Oh no, that's an entirely other trade. An entirely other team to fit into the general melee of work-blokes spreading dirt, puddles, bits of cardboard and "nothing to do with me, guv" bollox around the site. Carreleurs vs faienciers. Isn't that ridiculous? But apart from that significant plus today, and the fact that no-one died, it was just awful.
Blearh!!!! Sorry Blipfoto, sorry to blip-burp all over you.
