Lincoln Heights
To Edinburgh Cineworld with EdiSteve for a screening of Lincoln. Daniel Day-Lewis is very impressive, as are Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones; there's commendable cinematic craft on display; the historical story begs to be told to new generations ... but Lord, this film is dull in (large) parts. I dropped off a few times, and every time I awoke we were still in a Congressional meeting room with whiskery men baying over bits of paper. I think I shall seek out the recent Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter for a spot of levity.
Anyway, to mark the day, I popped to Calton Cemetery in Edinburgh to snap the statue of President Lincoln.
My favourite aspect of the film was being introduced to Jones's character, Thaddeus Stevens, who comes across very well in the movie, and if you look him up on Wikipedia or wherever, turns out to have been a sterling fellow, a real progressive and humanitarian.
