Lickey Drinking Fountain and Horse Trough
I regularly pass this feature on my lunchtime walks in Lickey and have decided it is time for it to appear as my blip.
It was built in 1906 to commemorate the coronation of Edward VII. Situated at the top of the hill on the old coaching route between Birmingham and Bromsgrove, it would seem ideally located to refresh the horses after the steep climb. Really it would have had to be built a lot earlier to have seen much practical use. By 1906 motor transport was on the way towards replacing horses.
It was restored on its centenary in 2006 by the Bromsgrove Society and Lickey & Blackwell Parish Council.
