Desert Island Luxury
I was listening to Desert Island Discs on the way home, whilst my choice of luxury always finds me divided (chocolate, coffee, marmite, olives, beer, toast) the "book" I would take to add to the given Bible and Complete Works of Shakespeare is straight forward for me - it would be a set of OS 1 in 25000 maps.
I've a race on Saturday over featureless Pennine lumpiness so thought I'd introduce myself to the terrain by looking up the route on the map. I love these maps, so many memories of days on the hills, mad moments, sublime moments and new adventures. I love the history laid bare in the land viewed like this. I love it when I get in the zone and can see the shape of the land, it's falls and rises, and love it even more when I arrive and "see the map" laid out before me - odd days when I swear I can see the contour lines on the land.
This is a new area for me apart from about 1 mile of the 20 mile route and already I'm in love with the place, what's not to love about place names like Bog Eggs Edge, Slack House, Weather House, Bedlam Hill.....
PS wondering if this counts as landscape photography?
