Creeking

nap time

A while ago we met a new friend. We called her 'Elly" and gave her a place to stay. She ate for a while and then retired to rest.
Today we checked to see if she had escaped or changed ..... and there she was cocooned and deep in the leaf litter.

Very carefully we lifted her out to record this wonderful new stage of her life. If you look closely you may be able to distinguish her wings and antenae forming under her dry skin. We returned her to her cool resting place to continue her changes. We will be checking from time to time to see if we can find her climbing up the sticks to begin her third stage.

Elly the elephant hawke moth catterpiller at I spy her first appearance.
