Earth to Earth....
Today's wide angle challenge is on the themes of earth or wind and I think this blip relates to both.
The title of the blip comes from the Book of Common Prayer : earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust. This group of graves in Cambridge Cemetery are all airmen who died in the Second World War on bombing missions over occupied Europe and Germany. Of course prevailing atmospheric conditions such as the wind were crucial in the success of these missions and their safe return to base. 830 airmen, including several airwomen, are buried here in Cambridge because there was such a large concentration of airfields in this part of East Anglia.
Pilot Officer Gerald Duncan Walker was just 21 years old when he died. He was the son of Victor Langford Walker and Doris Helen Walker, of Turramurra, New South Wales, Australia. His gravestone bears the words: OUR LOVING SON AND HIS LOYAL MATES. DUTY NOBLY DONE.
Rest in Peace.
