Betty's Reading Room
Three of us, and two dogs, went for a jaunt round the West Mainland today, visiting various craft producers, looking for items we would like to stock in the shop this coming season. We saw some beautiful silver work, pottery, woven and felted goods and stunning paintings and prints. Lots to choose from!
Up at Birsay we had a brisk walk up towards the cliffs - but not too close - they are very high and scary, and then we had lunch in Dounby. Lentil soup, and crab sandwiches for those not allergic to shellfish!
On the way home we managed to fit in a visit to Betty's Reading Room. It is an amazing and wonderful place. Full of books, comfy couches to relax on, a fire, a dog bed, water and biscuits for dogs, a bowl of sweets for humans, oil lamps, lots of pictures and models of hares and everywhere you look, interesting finds. Do read about it - a heart warming memorial created by neighbours when their friend died unexpectedly. Well worth a visit if you are ever in
these parts!
By the time we got home we were all shattered but it had been such a great fun day out, and I'd driven 100 miles, which is pretty good going in Orkney!
