Priorsford Bridge, Peebles

This is Priorsford Bridge as it crosses the River Tweed at the eastern end of the green in Peebles. It is a steel cable suspension bridge with brick peers and a wooden decking. It was constructed in 1905 and is a replacement for an older footbridge. As was noted in yesterday's blip it was constructed at the Tantah Foundry.

It has a tranquil setting on Tweed Green and is used by people walking and cycling to the town centre and those out for a stroll by the river. Its often possible to see a heron fishing or goosander ducks diving on the river from here and, if you are lucky, a leaping salmon!

It is complemented by Fotheringham Bridge (also a footbridge) which crosses the river slightly to the west in Hay Lodge Park. Between the two footbridges is the main road bridge crossing the Tweed. Together the bridges create a loop which forms the basis of the 'Three Bridges Race' run by local people in May of each year.
