A bundle of sisters
Meet the Gledhill girls, aged 6, 5 and 3 1/2. They came to see us today. Out of all the lovely portraits I took, this image had to be blipped because it most represents what they are like.
Here is the back story. Many years ago (in the 70s when I was away at university) my Dad answered the door to an anxious looking family. The parents had brought their beloved only daughter to study in Sunderland and she had been given digs with the old lady next door. Fortunately she was out, because this lady was not able to look after herself, much less have a student boarder. The family who included the fiance were invited in to our house.
To cut a long story short, so began a close friendship. L, the student, was found appropriate lodgings. She could not stay with my parents who already had another waif and stray student staying at the time! L and S, who married after she qualified as a teacher, have remained close friends of ours. We have seen them raise their 2 children and now their daughter has 3 little ones of her own. They live in Yorkshire, but they try to visit at least once a year.
The girls were delightful. I have lots of toys here (which I love) so they were well occupied and we went to the play park in the village when they needed to run off excess energy.
What more to say? Friendships are important and it is wonderful when they stay strong over many years.
