Life in a Northern Town

Beauty's Where You Find it.

This is a derelict mill between Huddersfield and Elland. I think it is beautiful in its own way; I love to photograph it but today when I arrived there I discovered it was all fenced off with warning signs about asbestos. I was tempted to sneak past the fence, but I decided that much as I love Blip, I love my lungs more, so this it it from a distance.

In the background you can see Halifax with the wind turbines at Ovenden on the top of the hill. The tower towards the left of the shot is Wainhouse Tower, which I have just discovered is open on Monday so I might visit to climb the 403 steps (if I am feeling energetic).

Go large!

Today was a good day for Huddersfield as Town managed to stay in the Championship - to say it was a tense game would be understating it, they were relegated and saved, then relegated then saved again. Who'd be a footie fan? They were playing Barnsley, who could also have been relegated today, but they were both saved at the expense of Peterborough. There was a rare display of West / South Yorkshire loyalty at the end of the game. Meanwhile, my son, who has been to every home game and most of the away games this season, had to miss it because he's off doing his Duke of Edinburgh expedition. Being on Ilkley Moor Bah't'at is one thing, being there bah't'internet is quite another.

Happy Saturday. Just 5 days until our beautiful greyhound comes to live with us!
