The wreck of the Sygna
Booky Goatherd left me a comment which reminded me with all this early rising I would never get a lie in so this morning I decided to lie in. Lovely it was too.
I had a quick look at the Colour Run, shopped, did loads of washing and washed the car. My brother is staying with me and has a proper 4WD. You know, the sort that beetle over immense sand dunes and the like. He was going to have a fish near the Sygna (you need 4WD, trail bike or camel to get there) however the seas were just a bit rough for him. I on the other hand had a great time blipping it. This may not have been the best of the bunch but I have chosen it because at this time, the sea eagle was perched on the mast. Shortly afterwards it snatched something out of the water and flew inland. There were another two hunting nearby.
The Sygna was caught in cyclonic conditions off Newcastle in 1974 and very like the Pasha Bulker in June 2007, it made it's run for sea too late and ran aground on Stockton Beach on 26 May 1974. Unlike the Pasha, refloating was unsuccessful although it was stripped of anything of value. Like the Pasha the crew were rescued by helicopter although it was from the RAAF base rather than the Westpac Rescue Helicopter. If you are interested in reading a little more on this wiki has a bit of a write up.
And now I have rambled on too long and it's late. Might be a bit slow catching up with you and thanks again for comments on yesterdays. Hope you all have had a good weekend.
