Boles de Picolat

I was down at the market rather later this morning, after the roads had been cleared following last night‘s snow. The fast food pans were well underway with paella and these meatballs, which are a Catalan speciality. Boles de picolat is a traditional Catalan dish in which meatballs and olives are simmered in a rich sauce. Other ingredients include carrots, garlic, cepes mushrooms, tomato purée, and olive oil. The meatballs are often prepared with a combination of pork and beef mince, flour, eggs, and onions. They are fried in olive oil, then combined with the sauce. Once prepared, the dish is served with white beans, chickpeas, or rice on the side. I thought perhaps our French conversation would not take place, but several people turned up, but not our francophone, so it was left to me to take the session and keep people talking .
