Between fen and mountains

Scattering the ashes

It was my turn to take the service. We had eight for ringing, but I could not linger afterwards as our friend, who lost her husband recently, had organised a meet up and walk to her husband’s favourite cemetery in the little mountain village of Evol, one that has the accolade of ‘Les plus beaux villages de France.‘ She scattered just a very few ashes as in France it is technically illegal. We then had a picnic and I went to play tennis against a good opponent. I thought after the walk I might not have the energy, but I got a second wind and, although I lost, had a good match.
