Abstract Landscape
The white focal point in this image is 'Seafield House, the same house I blipped on 2nd April but this is from a higher viewpoint further to the right. Some of the intervening fields are now yellow with oilseed rape. The main abstractional technique used was Intentional Camera Movement (ICM).
Only read on if you want to know how it was done:
Firstly, three horizontal ICM captures of the whole scene were combined, and two areas of weakness were identified: the nearest foreground and the sky were too plain. A further horizontal ICM of just some of the yellow rape was added to the foreground and a straight shot of a cloudy sky from two days ago was borrowed, tinted with the sunset colours from yesterday evening, and added to the top.
Then the combined result was opened as a new image for editing, (In GIMP you just drag the layer onto the toolbox to do that.) It was scaled to just 900 pixels wide and the 'oilify' filter was applied with both sliders at their maximum. It was then scaled back up to full size and dragged back in as a new top layer over the earlier work and combined in 'darken only' mode.
Those were the main steps but as well as brightness and contrast being constantly tweaked, masks were used throughout to control how much of each successive layer was incorporated in the final image.
The end result is considered to be a suitable entry for Ingeborgs Abstract Thursday challenge on the theme of 'abstract landscape photography' #AT413. I hope you agree.
