Our new family member

Isn't he sweet? We named him Marty Mc Fly. My son and i went to the shop today and chose him. Andre and i have been talking about a pet for a long time, unfortunately for us our flat and yard isn't large enough for a dog even a small one, plus i'm not so keen on having to train another creature to poop in certain places.

I love the idea of keeping rabbits and chickens but only having a paved courtyard doesn't really give us that option so we're going to save the puppy,rabbit and chickens and probably a cat until we buy a house with a big yard, Being a farmers daughter i love the idea of having lots of animals and a big yard and having my kids run around. We wanted to get our boys a pet, we thought it would be good for them. So we decided on either a bird or some fish, low maintenance, no having to train them, they occupy a small space etc.

At the pet store I realised that having fish with 2 little boys might not be the best, I'd be worried about what they'd put in the tank, that they'd tap or push the tank, not to mention it will be easier to clean a birdcage than a fish tank. So i chose Marty, Marley helped me choose his toys.

We all love him and he's settled in, he's been chirping, jumping on his swing and talking to himself in his mirror. The boys have been surprisingly good around him, when they look in the cage they are quiet and because of where the cage is they cant directly touch it.
