The Beginning Of The End

When I blipped the Fairmile Inn in December I expected the demolition to commence immediately; but the weeks passed and it remained unsullied by the wrecking crew. We began to hope that a reprieve had been agreed and we could admire this Art Deco building in a restored condition. This afternoon hopes were dashed as we saw that the building's demise has begun.

Sad as we were, we stood and admired the precision manoeuvres of the excavator driver as he picked up tiny articles in the grab with an artistic delicacy, to place them in the appropriate pile for recycling - wood, metal, even cabling.

Other locals joined us to watch and bemoan the loss of this iconic building.
