Playing out
With thanks to YoungPoet for the original idea, and Arachne for the riff on it. I'm not even going to try to match their beautiful, evocative poems about times gone by (have a look at Bernard's blip linked above for both of them).
Serendipitously, I was sitting on the square this evening and managed to snatch a photo of kids "playing out". Go large to see the balancing act. As soon as the weather gets warm, the fountain is a magnet for children -- they can happily spend hours playing at blocking the outlet and diverting the water, or simply splashing in the basin, or sailing makeshift boats in it. It's a lot more attractive than chaiselongue's forbidden fountain -- une honte (a disgrace) as she rightly says.
As I mentioned in my comment on Arachne's blip, during the summer here, there are always kids playing out, often till well after dark. I love that. Any adult who is around will keep an eye out for the kids if there's a problem. And at about 11 pm the night resounds to the cries of grannies trying to round up kids to get them to bed :)
PS yesterday is backblipped.
