Takeaway party

While we were away we got an invite to a takeaway party. Okay, sounds interesting. What's the score?

It was just what it said on the tin, actually. We all paid for our own food, ordering from the local Camile (Asian food). Everyone took their phones out to check the online menu and make their choices. Our host took notes  and totted up the cost. It all worked surprisingly well. Indeed it turned out to be a great idea. It was a super party marking the host's mother's birthday the next day. Great atmosphere. Non-stop chat. Lots of funny (and embarrassing) stories and jokes and banter and laughs and …

It all happened without TV or background music until one person asked about the rugby world cup and the TV was turned on to catch the end of the England-Fiji game. That brought on sad faces because of Ireland's earlier defeat by New Zealand, but there you go. Anyway. A terrific afternoon.
