Hoy Low
Today was a family history day for Beachcomber :-)
We drove into Stromness to catch the passenger ferry for Hoy.
When we arrived at Moaness we were met by Beachcomber's second cousin's husband, who runs the little mini bus for Rackwick.
We were dropped off at the Bu of Hoy where his cousin lives.
Bu is a Viking origin name for a farmstead. There are several Bu's on Orkney this type of farmstead would have belonged to the captain of a Viking longship or a man of similair standing in Viking society.
The building is very old and in it's present form dates back to 1615 previously it was thought to have been the keep of a fortified tower.
We had a lovely time sorting out all the relations :-)
Today's shot is of Hoy Low with the north end of Hoy in the background.
Beachcomber's relations mainly come from this part of Hoy or Rackwick :-)
