Life on the Ocean Wave
And it rained some more, as if to put the tin lid on His Lordship ever setting foot on these shores again. But Monday's rain is somehow more acceptable than Sunday's rain, so we girded out loins in waterproofs and strode into the weather to catch the bus to Scalloway on the other side of the Mainland.
There was the new museum to visit and Scalloway Castle built by Patrick Stewart, Earl of Shetland in 1600 ( a real bad apple), also the little monument to the brave sailors of the Shetland Bus who ferried agents back and forth to Norway from 1942- 1945 risking their lives on dangerous waters during WW2.
By the time we had wandered hither and thither, the sky lightened and the rain stopped. The bus took us back to Lerwick and more rain, but we managed a walk round the Knab, whereupon the drizzle stopped and the whole scene looked cheerier.
A visit was paid to Lifeat60Degrees before gathering our luggage from the hostel and heading back to the Orkney ferry and our car in Stromness.
A flying visit with unfortunate weather but lovely people. Au Revoir Lerwick, I wouldn't have missed you for the world. Unfortunately I speak for myself.
Edit: Now that we are about to leave port, the sun has come out- Sod's Law
