If you can't beat them...

Male Blackbird ( Turdus merula )

We had a slow start and knew we would be at social club this afternoon.  So in a brief spell of inactivity I took some shots of the male Blackbird.  We have a pair nesting close by and there is nearly always one or the other of the pair foraging in the garden and zooming off to feed the chicks.

In the afternoon we went to social club and CC delivered her first talk about Hedgehogs and what we the public can be doing to help them.

Despite the fact there seems to be lots of Blackbirds around there has been a decrease of 18% since the 1960s. . Thankfully in more recent years there has been a slight increase in the population in the wetter parts of the country i.e. the north and west.
