Between fen and mountains

Doing his job

Today we walked up to the ruined château of Paracols, first having walked through the grounds of the luxurious health spa in Molitg. We then walked along the valley and there were many wildflowers out. We came across a goat farm and were soon spotted by the patou, the classic Pyrenean mountain guard dog, who began barking furiously and made sure we did not linger. It was particularly windy when we were out of the woods. The return from Mosset was much better as we followed the irrigation canal through the woods for several kilometres and had nice views down to the old monastery on the valley floor which is now in private hands. It was a fairly easy, varied walk, and I was rather surprised to discover that we had, in fact, climbed 400 metres and walked 13 kilometres.
