Sarajevo roofscape

Quite a lot of rain overnight and still raining in the morning but not too important as we were travelling to Sarajevo and a day off walking.
In the city if was dry and cooler (in fact had to put more clothes on later in the day) with clouds on the surrounding hills.
Many of the group went on a city tour, which we had done last year, so we found a tour to the airport tunnel. During the siege this narrow tunnel under the UN controlled airport was the only contact the inhabitants of Sarajevo had with the outside world - and that was only after a couple of years. Some supplies were brought in and some people managed to leave in more safety than trying to cross the flat ground and runway which was the only way before it was dug.
The guide told us a lot about the siege and life in the city on the journey, she had been a young child at the time until she and her mum managed to get out.
A wander round the old town afterwards made us realise a bit of the dangers of living there during the siege. In this pic you can see the hills rising above the city.
The evening meal was at the brewery, it's spring was an important source of water during the siege, with good food and beer.
