While sorting through The Old Lady's past life we came across Dad's marquetry stuff, he took up the hobby a few years before he died a little over thirty years ago and won a few prizes in club competitions. I'm not too keen on it as an art form, the palette provided by the natural woods is, I've always thought, rather restrictive, but this chaffinch is pretty good although barely started; it looks better than the blip shows and the workmanship is superb.
TOL had kept all his kit with the intention of trying to complete this piece but never quite got around to it. They were both good craftsmen and I'm sure she would have done a good job.
