The Beautiful St. John's Bridge
This is, hands down, the prettiest bridge in Portland. You can't really tell that from this photo, however. Auntie and I went to see my son today and we drove around and ended up near the bridge, so I begged suggested that we stop there for a few minutes. We did and I was thrilled to see this park, Cathedral Park (so named because of these cathedral type arches), which is beneath St. John's Bridge. This bridge was opened in June of 1931. If you google this bridge, you will see a lot of gorgeous photos of this elegant bridge.
Designed by internationally renowned engineer David B. Steinman (1886-1960) and Holton D. Robinson, of New York, the St. Johns was the longest suspension-type bridge west of the Mississippi River at the time of construction. It is the only major highway suspension bridge in the Willamette Valley and one of only three major highway suspension bridges in Oregon.
This park is said to be haunted by the ghost of Thelma Taylor.
A good burger at a sports bar, a nice visit with my son, an outing to the park. A nice day. Gotta go and feed the man! See ya
