#cloudporn

I like Instagram. Some days I like Instagram more than I like Twitter: I enjoy seeing what other people are seeing, to see the things that they think are noteworthy. Like Twitter, people hashtag on Instagram and one of my favourites is the #cloudporn tag.

The thing with clouds is that a lot of the time - especially in Cumbria - they look like what they are: an amorphous mass of water droplets suspended in the sky. There's no form to them and why should there be?

And yet sometimes these huge masses of randomly distributed miniscule drops take on a high level order that is stunningly beautiful. It's easy to take clouds for granted and that's why I like #cloudporn photos.

This was the view out of the back of the cottage, this evening: a field, a couple of cows and huge sky, full of this wonderful collection of clouds. You might say it's the work of God or you might wonder at the beauty of physics, but either way it's definitely worth looking up and enjoying.
