Wasp visiting Snowberry Flowers
Wasps do not have a very good press with roadside signs displaying the message -'Wasp nests destroyed - £20'. However almost every pest insect species has at least one wasp species that preys upon it, making wasps critically important in natural bio-control. This wasp was preoccupied with the nectar in the tiny pink flower of symphoricarpos, more commonly called a snowberry bush. It had no more interest in my activities than yesterday's bees at the courgette flower. The snowberry goes on to produce large white berries in the autumn which last long after the leaves have gone. I bought it a few years ago as part of a berry hedge to replace the leylandii trees that had got out of control - as they do. However wasps are a reminder that the summer is passing all too quickly and to enjoy it while we can.
I added a very light Photoshop crosshatch filter to the final image.
