Grand Union Canal ...

My train home was later than usual today, due to it being bank holiday Monday. So we enjoyed a quiet stroll along The Grand Union Canal, just outside Watford. A feature of the southern section of this "Cut" are the 14' locks - twice the width of the 7' locks I'm used to seeing along the canals of the West Midlands. Apparently the canal engineers planned to convert all the canals in the country to this wider spec, in order to accommodate larger craft, but run out of money before they got much further North than Watford Gap . . . . .
