Pont Raymond Barre

Today I was lucky enough to witness a unique, once-in-a-lifetime event : the setting down of a new bridge that was constructed at the port down the river, then transported on a barge from there to the place where it's supposed to be.

It is the newest bridge on the Rhône in the city of Lyon, and will hold tramway and pedestrian/cycling lines (no cars).

The whole manoeuvre is taking several days. The bridge deck was transported yesterday, then rotated and placed above the bridge piles today (it took the whole day and evening before it was finally tied up), then the last part of the bridge will be placed in a few days.

I love bridges, they're always a great photography subject, and I found it very emotional to see the "birth" of a new one!
