A lovely room to sleep in, I imagine
Despite the warnings of wet weather for today, Woodpeckers suggested going to Newark Park, when I asked if she would like top go out somewhere. It is a National Trust property built at the top of the Ozleworth Valley not far from Wootton-under-Edge near the Cotswold escarpment. It had last been occupied by an architect from Texas who with his partner did a wonderful job of restoring the former rather grand Tudor hunting lodge to a delightful home for themselves.
We arrived after lunchtime to find it quite busy with visitors, but it still retained a sense of being a private place, left in the way the former owner must have liked it. From the front windows which faced south there were magnificent views out down the valley, across towards the Severn Vale and further south to the far away Mendips hills. This window was looking east over woodlands, but as a bedroom the views wouldn't have been as important as in the drawing rooms and hallways.
I liked these hand painted frames painted on the wall of this room, as well as the general atmosphere of this fascinating sixteenth century stone building. I expect we will come back later in the year for a special event the Trust is planning. Maybe then the weather will be more clement and we can explore the extensive gardens and woodlands.
