Gig at the Half Moon, Putney
It's a long time since we've been to the Half Moon. We went to see Ben Waters, who plays boogie woogie piano. Mind you, he doesn't really stick to one genre. He's accompanied by 3 saxes (one of which is played by his 12 year old son), as well as bass and drums. So then some of the numbers are blues ( but more Chicago style than Delta). He goes mad on the piano, at one stage playing ragtime with one hand and boogie woogie with the other. The bloke in my photo is not Ben, he's a very tall singer called Tom. We've seen him guest with Ben Waters before. We didn't know who he was, but we saw him drink 5 pints ( he didn't arrive sober), then he did some outrageous dancing by the bar, and then went on stage, sang and played the piano brilliantly, and nearly fell off the stage at the end. So we were looking out for him last night, and we weren't disappointed. Also present last night were the guitarist and harmonica player from None Below Zero, who were brilliant. A fabulous gig...
