Eclipse
11 August 1999 was the date of a total eclipse of the Sun. I witnessed it at the University of Plymouth in the company of members of the Astrological Association whose 1999 Conference was taking place there.
I had driven down overnight, having left home at 0150 hr and arrived at 0410 hr, getting a few hours of kip before a cooked breakfast in the Student Union and meeting up with Anna Estaroth, Robert Hand, Robin Heath and others.
This picture was taken a few minutes before 1111 hr, when the skies quietly darkened, the temperature dropped and suddenly day became night. Then, as if someone was turning a fader, it became light again and the wheeling seagulls resumed their normal behaviour.
Although I left Plymouth at 1835 hr I didn't get home until 0112 hr due to eclipse traffic on the A303.
