On fire

This one taken standing above Hurst Reservoir at the bottom of the A57 Snake Pass just before entering Glossop. It's one of my most photographed areas and the subject of a somewhat delayed project to demolish the dam and re-landscape the area. In 2012 there were presentations and representations and some permission must have been given to start the work. Initially it seemed to be going to happen fairly quickly at the start of the year as United Utilities (UU) built a new access road and lots of preparatory work was done including attempts to deter breeding birds once there was delay. The National Park planners discussed the project in May but it's only in the last week that UU now have the go ahead. I guess there will be something in tomorrow's local paper about if and when it will actually happen. The planning decision notice (document can be found here)has lots of sections to read I guess there could be something to put the project off again. Anyway I was quite pleased with this into the setting sun shot and yes there really is smoke as well as rays from the sun at the top
