Yosemite Falls
Yosemite Falls, seen from the banks of the Merced River. Except there is no water in the Falls at this time of year. If you look just to the right of the tree trunk at the top of the image, you will see a notch in the ridgeline of the mountain; there is a dark inverted vee shape with a brownish center descending from the notch--that is where the water cascades down during the rainy season, but it is dry now. The river itself is pretty tame as well. The still surface is covered in golden aspen leaves, which catch the shadows of the trees very nicely.
We meandered for several miles along the river today, admiring the views of the various peaks and listening to the breeze ruffle the autumn leaves. It was sweet to find our favorite log with a view of the river and Half Dome, a place where we have enjoyed many picnic lunches on the trail.
