Up early despite Alan being off school as the chimney sweep was coming.

We’ve never been brave enough to light a real fire in the fireplace since we moved here, preferring to use candles instead, but we decided that this year we really wanted to have a log fire going at the weekends and of course at Christmas.

Sweeps arrived and were done in no time, without a trace of soot anywhere other than in the bag for disposal. Changed days from my childhood when the sweeps were filthy and you had to cover all your furniture and carpets with dust sheets then wash, hoover and dust afterwards.

Can’t wait to get a fire going but safety first, we need to buy a fire guard!

David’s off to Grasmere tomorrow for a boy’s weekend and requested Banana loaf and Empire biscuits to take with him so spent the evening baking. The house smelled heavenly!
