War and Whistleblowing
Went to an excellent event this evening organised by Norwich Stop the War Coalition entitled: War and whistleblowing: why Chelsea Manning should be free.
Whistleblower Chelsea Manning is currently serving a 35 year sentence for sending more then 700,000 secret military and state department documents to the anti-secrecy website Wikileaks while working as an intelligence analyst in Iraq, and the guest speaker this evening was Peter Tatchell, well known political campaigner who is perhaps best known for his work within LGBT social movements and for attempting to perform citizens arrests on the likes of Robert Mugabe and Tony Blair.
Peter has called on President Obama to pardon Manning.
He has also established the Peter Tatchell Foundation and some of the publicity for which includes the statement:
"Don't accept the world as it is. Dream of what the world could be - and then help make it happen."
