Devil's Crown, Floreana Island
This morning we went for a dingy ride to look at some blue footed boobies and sea lion pups before having a wet landing on Post Office Bay, Floreana Island. There is a barrel there which is an unofficial post office once used by pirates and whalers. The idea is you drop off your mail and travellers will check the letters and if one is destined to where they are heading they will deliver it. I left one for mum and picked one up addressed to East Brighton, where my sister Kerry lives. Getting back on the the dingy's was an amusing challenge due to waves coming in a little too frequently.
Then we went snorkelling at a place called Devil's Crown, a rocky outcrop of the coast of Floreana Island, and I have to say today was a day I wish I could upload a video instead of a photo. It was AMAZING. The water was so clear and there were SO MANY fish and white tipped reef sharks. There was a family of sea lions sun baking on a tiny beach and they decided to come in the water a play with us! Hence the desire to post a video! The big bull was a little intimidating but when I got close he just blowed bubbles at me.
When we were on our way back to the dingy we saw this sea turtle and got some great shots and footage of him in the clear blue waters. It was by far the highlight of our time in Galapagos and best wildlife encounter of my life.
Tonight being our last night, we anchored near Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz Island and went into town to do some souvenir shopping.
