Another bird rescue
But with a difference this time. It was most excellent that DawGal , she who throws so much effort into rescuing little sparrows, finches, thrushes, and of course the tui, was able to come out for this event .
A kiwi which is sponsored by a local vets and now big enough to release into this 16 Ha predator fenced sanctuary. At 1 kg he's strong enough to fight off a stoat, but apparently too many of these youngsters have fallen foul of all sorts of accidents, so the plan is to grow them on here until they mature a bit more.
The take home message from today is that the NZ kiwi is now at the point where it cannot survive on the mainland without full management.
It does not bare thinking of, our country, without the kiwi roaming it's hills.
